About this deal

I loved the symbol of the wren and thought it was wonderful to have such a love of literature conveyed throughout the book. This is Morton's "Once upon a time," as she opens her tale with an almost mythic quality, which is something I especially like about her writing. It is 1935 and we are introduced to Judith Dunbar, a fourteen year old about to embark on life at boarding school while her parents and little sister, Jess, are living a world away in Singapore. Her father works for a British company abroad, and the practice of sending older children to school and leaving them in the care of relatives is not unusual. Judith has her father’s sister, Aunt Louise, with whom she is to spend holidays, and makes friends with Loveday Carey-Lewis, who is to have a huge impact on her life and fortunes. Ashley Grant - Amy's rival in the series. Ashley's parents own Green Briar Stables, a stable for competition horses. Ashley often competes against Amy in jumping competitions. Perhaps as a result of her parents' constant pressure and high expectations, Ashley is extremely competitive and hostile towards Amy and her peers. In the second part, the writers explore various strategies for understanding and dealing with homelessness, and the theological and ethical foundations for Christian reflection and action.

The ending was a long road to a short thought, as above. There were too many “twists” and it started to venture into conspiracy toward the end. Meg was clearly unhinged; she wouldn’t have let that baby go.. she was obsessed with it. But then finding out it was her husband’s love child, come on! And you expect me to believe that all these people were involved and kept it all quiet? I didn't necessarily find all of the characters that connectable or likeable, however, I enjoyed the complex family dynamics at play. Polly was perhaps the most likeable of the three main women, however, we only start to get her viewpoint later on in the book. Whilst many of the characters were far from perfect, I think Morton depicted them well enough, that it was possible to appreciate where they were coming from, for the most part at least. In addition to her vividly descriptive settings, Morton sure knows how to weave a story. In this case, a gripping narrative that is part multi-generational family saga, part cold case murder mystery. Set in Adelaide Hills, South Australia in 1959, Morton is masterful in her descriptions of place and time. Her tone is that of a storyteller who knows the power of her words and sets them in epic spaces. While staying at her grandmother’s home, Jess discovers a true-crime book linking the decades-old Christmas Eve tragedy to her family. Jess begins to investigate what happened all those years ago.As one of the ‘Sweet Water Ranch Billionaire Cowboys’ series of novels, this provides another romance set in the same world, this being the third book in the franchise. First released on the 14th of May in 2019, this would also come out on the Kindle platform, with its themes of faith and love. Another self-contained story, it can be read on its own, although there are some elements and arcs brought over into each book, making for a highly successful series. Ty Baldwin - The stable hand at Heartland, Ty dropped out of high school to pursue a permanent position at Heartland. He helps cure the horses. Ty is one of Amy's closest friends throughout the series, and eventually her boyfriend. He helps her through personal and professional challenges, and he often understands her when no one else can. Ty and Amy have a close relationship, and they become boyfriend & girlfriend later in the series. However, they break up when Amy leaves for college, but remain friends as of "A Winter's Gift". Some of the paths around Sinshan Creek. A Kesh map of the watershed of Sinshan Creek, given to the Editor by Little Bear Woman of Sinshan. I love the author's style. The more brash, brutal and crude contemporary novels become, the more valuable author's such as Rosamunde Pilcher and Maeve Binchy will be as a counterbalance in this family/romance genre.

As we have watched the growth of rough-sleeping in Britain over the past decade, it would be easy to think that the problems were insurmountable. If we leave this solely to the voluntary sector, that may well be true. But in her essay, Dame Louise Casey, a former civil servant, reminds us that we saw a similar increase in the 1990s and the Labour government chose to use its powers to reduce and prevent homelessness, with considerable success.Samantha Louise "Lou" Fleming-Trewin - Amy's 23-year-old sister. Lou is organized and runs the business side of Heartland after her mother's death. Amy looks up to Lou; she is practical and brave, like Tim. Lou is very close to her dad and they were inseparable during her childhood, and eventually adulthood. She marries Scott and has a daughter, Holly Marion. This historical mystery has multiple POVs, two timelines and contains a book within a book. It looks at mother-daughter relationships, identity, and belonging. It also considers mental health during a period when these conversations were not openly discussed.

The writing style was a bit of a mess too… rapid jumps in time in the same paragraph. One minute we’re in the past, next it’s the present, oh suddenly it’s a dream… it was clunky and confusing. A story doesn’t need to be linear to be good, but there needs to be strong fluidity if it’s skipping around and this book just… wasn’t.Anyhow, I am spent by it all and need to calm the eff down from all those emotional highs and frustration lows. I teared up several times and I am not prone to tears as a rule. When her new friend Loveday Carey-Lewis invites Judith home for the weekend to Nancherrow, the Carey-Lewises’ beautiful estate on the Cornish coast, it is love at first sight. The Adelaide Hills Christmas Eve 1959 and local Percy Summers discovers something that will haunt him forever, the police are called and everyone living in the small town of Tambilla try to understand what has happened, it is so baffling, inexplicable that something like this could happen in this quiet town. Jess’s mother Polly lives in Brisbane and they are not close since Jess was bought up by Nora, Jess is here alone in Sydney and starts to investigate why her grandmother wanted to get up to the attic what she finds after internet searches is a true crime book written by Daniel Miller on an unsolved family tragedy that left a mother and three children dead and a baby missing and that these people were related to Nora, Jess and Polly and Jess is not going to give up until she gets the answers. There are several threads to this mystery. Some are glaringly obvious from the beginning, but others might be a surprise. I did not see one of the final reveals at all, but the breadcrumbs were there.
