Note you'll get the proof and the color, and some of the body, but not the full flavor: Cruzan 151 - this is a good light Spanish-style overproof that I'd use in recipes that call for Bacardi 151. El Dorado 3-Year-Old Rum Offers tropical notes. Rich yet complex flavor profile. El Dorado 3 Year is crisp, with notes of cacao, cane sugar, and grassy. Plantation Barbados 5 Year Plantation Nose: Very aromatic and complex with notes of pipe tobacco, dark chocolate, winter spices, hints of dark fruit, as well as fried banana, a little suggestion of foam banana sweets too!

It's not a straight substitution, but you can get some of the same characteristics from Barbancourt. It has notes of overripe banana, dark chocolate, tobacco, vanilla, and spice. It’s much more flavorful than you’d expect from such a high-proof rum. Please don't bother with Bacardi 151 (July 23,2017: Bacardi is no longer on the market), even as ignition fuel for flaming drinks. Rather than soaking a sugar cube or crouton in 151 prof rum, soak it in lemon extract. You'll get a much better flame. El Dorado 3-Year-Old Rum is a great choice for Tiki drinks. Matured for at least three years in charred oak casks, this crystal clear, flavorful rum is filtered through charcoal. The result is a complex, versatile rum well-suited for mixing. Its earthiness and oak lend themselves well. There’s also a ton of caramel, vanilla, orange peel, and light spices. All of these work well in Tiki-style drinks. Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple Rum Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple Rum Dark and Stormy: The Dark and Stormy is a traditional Bermudian drink that is made with dark rum and ginger beer.
