‎Vol. 4 (2021 Remaster) - Album by Black Sabbath - Apple Music

Kerrang! magazine listed the album at No. 48 among the "100 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All Time". [30] Rolling Stone ranked it 14th on their 2017 list of "100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time". [31] The album was also included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. [32] The rest of the album has grown on me over the past few years. Iommi's guitar tone here could curdle milk, but I've started to see that as a plus because it adds to the general heaviness and dark vibe of the album, dark by even Sabbath standards. I certainly get how influential Vol. 4 is. I can hear strains of doom ( Cornucopia, Under the Sun/Everyday Comes and Goes), stoner metal ( St. Vitus Dance, Wheel of Confusion), even industrial ( Supernaut). And, for better or worse, Changes might be the first power ballad. Kolmas kappale "Changes" on hyvä esimerkki yhtyeen kokeilunhalusta. Adam Ranger: A good album, but not a great album. but does have some filler and feels a little disjointed in places, however it was a joy to listen to this again. It was the album they recorded before my all time favourite the following year Sabbath Bloody Sabbath so a precursor to that it deserves praise.Mauricio Telles: Timeless album, defined a genre, with parts trippy, parts aggressive, instrumentally better than its predecessors. I’ve never stopped to listen to it since the first time. Score 10/10. [11] From the opening notes of Wheels Of Confusion that begin the album with the most deeply mind-rotting, drugged-out and nowhere riff ever, total mental oblivion is guaranteed. The gears and cogs of Sabbath churn ever slower and slower on this ear-splitting grind-out as Ozzy is singing lyrics liberated from reason, proclaiming innocence as illusion as the circular trudge does nothing but continue. Will it ever end?" ( Head Heritage) The riffs peaked on Supernaut: a face-melting boogie supported by Geezer Butler’s booming bass bombs, Ozzy Osbourne maniacal and Bill Ward delivering a drum-break to die for. But all 10 songs – here remastered by Andy Pearce and Matt Wortham, also credited on re-issues by Deep Purple, Rory Gallagher et al – sound rich and timeless.

Osbourne also recounts the band's ongoing anxiety over the possibility of being busted, which worsened after they went to the cinema to see The French Connection (1971), about undercover New York City cops busting an international heroin-smuggling ring. "By the time the credits rolled," Osbourne recalled, "I was hyperventilating." In 2013, Butler admitted to Mojo magazine that heroin, too, had entered the picture: "We sniffed it, we never shot up... I didn't realise how nuts things had gotten until I went home and the girl I was with didn't recognise me." The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All time". Rolling Stone. Penske Media Corporation. 21 June 2017. Archived from the original on 12 February 2021 . Retrieved 2 October 2021. Upon closer inspection, it's more a reflection of the timeless quality of the others that Vol. 4 is on the periphery of their classic period. Witness the masterful opener Wheels Of Confusion, which once again reminds us that Tony Iommi is as much a great lead player as a riff master. Not to mention the immortal Snowblind. Arthur Comix: 10/10. First Sabbath LP I bought. The riffs are super-heavy, the other stuff adds texture - makes the heavy even heavier. First and last on each side are as good as it gets. (My old band used to play Under The Sun. Very very badly)Vuonna 2021 albumista julkaistiin lisämateriaalia sisältävä 4-CD ja 5-LP Super Deluxe -versio. Mukana on remasteroitu versio varsinaisesta albumista, tuottaja-muusikko Steven Wilsonin miksauksia vaihtoehtoisista studio-otoista ja varhaisista versioista sekä tuottaja Richard Digby Smithin uudelleenmiksaama versio vuoden 1973 live-konsertista. [22] Kappaleet [ muokkaa | muokkaa wikitekstiä ] Philip Qvist: I borrowed this album from a schoolmate in the 1981 - and on first hearing I remember how heavy that album was.
