About this deal

I have also done a lot of theorycrafting on this, comparing the Helbrute, Blight-Hauler and the Plagueburst Crawler (I didn’t compare the Predator because it’s more expensive or the Forgeworld Dreadnoughts). Here was what I came up with:

The ability to double up on units that were previously one per detachment means that Death Guard players can now take two Daemon Princes or two Chaos Lords in a Detachment. Again, not necessarily great as an option but interesting to note. Generally speaking, this one’s a double-edged sword; Death Guard are still going to be among the game’s most durable armies, but they’re going to feel a quite a bit more fragile. On the upside, the army has a lot of AP-1 and AP-2 weaponry that will suddenly feel much more useful and deadly, and there are fewer armies out there waiting to turn off re-rolls to wound. 2023 Munitorum Field Manual (MFM) There’s a lot going on with the Arks updates for Death Guard, with changes both major and subtle. Let’s walk through the basic changes and then talk about what it means for the faction. The new Force Org They are fast enough to keep pace with even the battle tanks of the Death Guard, while their smaller size and all-terrain mobility allows them to advance in support of Mortarion's sons in even the densest or most difficult environment. When combined with their potent marksmanship, and their ability to wreathe the Death Guard battle-line in covering fumes, it is not hard to see why these Daemon Engines are so highly valued.A number of changes to the game’s secondaries affect Death Guard in Arks of Omen. Assassination, Grind Them Down, and Behind Enemy Lines now grant a bonus CP for completing the secondary with a Troops unit involved, which is fantastic news for Plague Marines. Psychic Interrogation became more difficult and now requires an enemy character have Line of Sight to the caster, which ironically makes Mortarion one of the game’s best units for Interrogate. And the change to Engage on All Fronts makes it slightly easier to score for slower Death Guard armies. Tri-lobe: +1 to hit if this unit contains three models, this is both for ranged and melee. It is expensive but taking a unit of three would up your damage output quite a bit and help out in the killpoint department as well. Suddenly these guys moving up with a lord of a prince are hitting on 3+ with reroll 1’s. Solid. If you want more resilience, then the Crawler shines. The thing with the Crawler is that it seems to be in a weird spot because it has mixed weapon types which is normally a no-no; the mortar doesn’t require LOS so you want to park it behind a building or other terrain piece and bombard the enemy, but the rest of its weapons do and if you move out to take a shot, you’re hitting on 5s. Using it as a main tank still lets you target things that you don’t have LOS to, but it’s not an artillery platform like, say, a Basilisk or Griffon is where you park it in some ruins and it never moves. You want it to have clear shots to targets, and use the LOS ignoring mortar to make it so enemies can’t hide, rather than so you can hide. EL: 10x Blightlord Terminators, 6x Combi-Bolter, 2x Blight Launcher, 8x Bubotic Axe, 2x Flail of Corruption With Disgustingly Resilient, Armour of Contempt, and Obsec on their marine bodies, the Death Guard will once again match up extremely well against the Adeptus Custodes, who are clearly on their way down after their nerfs. The army will potentially hold up well against Daemons, Chaos Space Marines, Orks, and Drukhari, and vehicle-heavy lists will likely do well against Genestealer Cults while Terminator-heavy lists should do well against T’au and Craftworlds Eldar. The Struggle

Plague Marine w/ flail [38pts]: 2x Blight grenades, 2x Flail of corruption, 2x Krak grenades, 2x Plague knife Whilst we will do everything we can to meet the delivery times above, there may be factors outside of our control and we cannot guarantee delivery within this time frame. Whether racing along as escorts to armoured spearheads, or prowling through burning cityscapes in support of advancing Plague Marines, Myphitic Blight-haulers encircle the foe, strike at their most vulnerable points, then close in to consume the mangled corpses that are left in destruction's wake. In this article Robert “TheChirurgeon” Jones will talk about what’s new and what it means for the Death Guard. The Competitive Context Blood Reaper • Blood Slaughterer • Blood Throne of Khorne • Brass Scorpion • Cauldron of Blood • Death Dealer • Doom Blaster • Kytan • Lord of Battles • Lord of Skulls • Skull Cannon of Khorne • Tower of SkullsPutrescent Fog: The haulers signature ability. Death Guard infantry that are entirely within 7” of the hauler gain the benefits of cover. If you field a squad of 3 then this aura does become very large indeed. Your plague marines shoot rapid fire at 18”, can advance and shoot without penalties and with this ability have a 2+sv in the open. Even units such as Blightlord Terminators benefit from this, upping their saves against any Ap-1 and Ap-2 weaponry

Coming into April, the Death Guard were hurting. Once a steady upper mid-tier performer, the February points update hit them unreasonably hard, and that coupled with a rash of overpowered codex releases left them hovering below a 50% win rate. The new dataslate improves Death Guard dramatically with two changes:

Rob’s List

The result is that Death Guard feel like a strong mid-tier faction now with some interesting options, but not a faction that is likely to dominate. The new Force Org changes a number of things for Death Guard, but in ways that mostly don’t matter: So right off the bat the flavour text gives us a fairly accurate description of what the unit is good at: mid range tank hunting. The blight-hauler very often will also serve as support units on the tabletop due to their amazing putrescent fog ability (more on that later). Unlike the other Death Guard daemon engines such as the Foetid Bloat-drone and the Plagueburst Crawler these little guys may be fielded in squads of 1-3, gaining bonuses while the squad is at 3 models. Unlike many other vehicle squads they however do not get to split up once the game starts, meaning you do have to keep them in coherency at all times. Helbrute • Ferrum Infernus Dreadnought • Chaos Contemptor Pattern Dreadnought • Sonic Dreadnought • Berserker Dreadnought • Leviathan Dreadnought Units that disembark from a TRANSPORT model that made a Normal move this phase count as having made a Normal move themselves; they cannot move further during this phase. Such a unit also cannot declare a charge in the same turn, but can otherwise act normally in the remainder of the turn.
