About this deal

If you injure yourself on the trail while hiking, a roll of Leukotape can save the day. Taping the injured joints, ligaments, or muscles will help prevent any further damage. Using Leukotape to Prevent Blisters Your blisters rarely form right when you finish hiking. Most of the time you will need to continue hiking several miles on them. This is a super common problem with an easy fix.

If you feel like you recognise some of the below plasters, you probably do – they used to be known as Coverplast. They are the same professional quality, just a new name. With over 100 years of experience providing premium-quality wound care solutions, Leukoplast (previously Coverplast) is the go-to brand for premium plasters, dressings and tapes. Pioneering from the very beginning, Coverplast invented the world’s first self-adhesive plaster tape in 1901, using zinc oxide and natural rubber. They have since continued to innovate and lead in their field and now provide a full range of wound care solutions for use both by medical professionals and for self-treatment at home.Blisters are the bane of a hiker’s life. Even a well-fitted, high-end pair of hiking boots can go bad and cause you issues…usually when you are as far from civilization as it is possible to be! Phase 2 actually requires draining and treating the blister, so your best bet is to take action before it gets to this point. Neither duct tape nor moleskin will perform well on wet, sweaty surfaces. They are not particularly skin-friendly and you will have to replace it often. To most non physios the most visible use of physio taping can be seen in the professional rugby field where it is common place to see heavily taped knees, elbows and thumbs. However, an ankle sprain is the most commonly occurring sports injury and it is not surprising that techniques such as the basket weave, stirrups and figure of 8 taping will be known to many amateur players and coaches. We believe we have created a comprehensive collection of zinc oxide tapes– most Sports Physios will of course have individual preferences when it comes to the type of tape they use, so we present a selection of the world’s best known branded tapes such as Leukotape, Leukoplast, Strappal and Mueller M Tape and match them with our own quality professional tapes such as Vivotape P, Vivotape Sport, Vivo S Tape and Vivotape, and therefore we offer an unrivaled choice to teams and physiotherapists.

Phase 1 of blistering is when a hot spot starts forming. This is usually when you start noticing signs of friction. Many hikers use medical taping to wrap their hot spots with adhesive products like duct tape or moleskin. However, it contains a magic ingredient that most other tapes don’t Zinc Oxide Adhesive Sports Tape to the Rescue

If you already have a blister, you can use Leukotape to stop it from getting worse and act as a barrier to nasty germs and bacteria while you are hiking or ultralight running. Choose the right size plaster, making sure that the wound pad is slightly larger than the wound and that the shape is correct for the area of the body: Leukotape can stay on for at least a day, if not several. However, feet need to breath. The actual recommended length of time is 18 hours.

Leukotape K is similar to Kinesio Tape (or KT Tape) in that it stretches. It's great for athletes who need to maintain range of motion, but that stretch doesn't necessarily help prevent foot blisters. It's also .5 inches wider than Leukotape P, making it a little more difficult to place comfortably on your feet. Leukotape acts as a barrier to nasty germs and bacteria. To prevent infection of a blister, a layer of Leukotape will keep out the mud or dirt that is sure to accumulate in your shoes when hiking or ultralight running. THERMAREST & MSR: Sale! 30% Off all MSR Tents and Thermarest Sleeping Bags including the award-winning Parsec 0! Leukotape protects your skin’s surface (or rather the surface of your feet) from the effects of constant rubbing. It also provides thermal insulation and can help reduce friction. Breathable First, let’s clarify what a “hot spot” is, versus a “bubbly blister”. A hot spot is the beginning of an oncoming blister at the initial sign of friction. Think of it as Phase 1 in the blister formation process. A bubbly blister is Phase 2, once the hot spot has fully formed into a mature blister. Each phase requires different management.

Holding the plaster by the protective strips, place the wound pad so that it fits over the wound and then peel the protective strips off entirely. Press down the edges of the plaster to secure it. Breathable - You shouldn’t leave it on forever, but unlike duct-tape the cotton-rayon material breathes pretty well. It can be left on for a lot longer without issues. Some leukotape brands contain natural rubber latex and may cause an allergic skin reaction if you have sensitive skin. Tearable - You don’t want to have to pull out your knife or bring a special pair of scissors to cut your tape. Leukotape rips fairly easily in both directions (though I find it rips crossways better if you 'start' it by biting it). Apply strips of Leukotape over the susceptible area (ball of your foot, for example) and up either side ensuring that there are no creases or gaps to avoid friction. Note, do not circle the foot entirely as it could constrict your blood supply.
