About this deal

With a 9-bladed rounded diaphragm, I get pretty good 18-pointed sunstars on brilliant points of light at the smallest apertures. Keep shooting hand held even when light gets low. A fast f/2.8 aperture lets in twice as much light as an f/4 lens, and a 3.5-stop Image Stabilizer guards against camera shake

Personally, I shoot without a tripod in the field, having to carry this all day and night, so I own the Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS. By default, there is no always-responsive instant manual-focus override as we take for granted in our DSLRs. Seeking the best printer for your business? Hit your productivity targets with inkjet and laser printers that are a perfect fit for any workspace – including home offices. Ultra sharp, even wide-open where there's no depth-of-field to help us. It's easy to read the tiny print from my front tire:

I use a clear (UV) protective filter instead of a cap so I'm always ready to shoot instantly. I only use a cap when I throw this in a bag with other gear without padding — which is never. The UV filter never gets in the way, and never gets lost, either.

The Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L USM is a fully professional 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom for half the price of the very similar Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II. The only benefits for paying twice as much for the flagship 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II is Image Stabilization (IS) and slightly better optical and AF performance, so if you're shooting from a tripod, this 70-200/2.8 does the same thing for half the price, with a little less weight. The usual curse of Canon, there are some green-magenta lateral secondary color fringes visible at the ends of the zoom range. Unlike with Nikon cameras, Canon cameras as of this writing (November 2011) have no ability to correct for this lens limitation. To calculate a centimeter value to the corresponding value in inches, just multiply the quantity in centimeters by 0.393701 (the conversion factor). Centimeters to inches formulae If this 1,200×900 pixel crop is about 6" (15cm) wide on your screen, the complete image would print at a huge 27½×41¼″ (70×105 cm) at this same high magnification. At 200mm, it's a very little bit softer at f/2.8 in the center, and softer in the corners, sharpening up in the center and corners by f/4.Weight wise, too, the RF optics comes in at just 1,070g compared to the 1,480g heft of the EF. And trust us, when you're lugging this thing around for a day, that weight makes a lot of difference –especially when you take into consideration the reduced weight of the EOS R cameras compared to Canon's DSLRs. The metal 77mm filter thread is a nice change from some of the plastic garbage Nikon sold us in earlier years. Filters spin off and spin on easily with little worry for cross-threading. Enjoy superb images quality, even on our highest resolution digital cameras. A sophisticated optical design delivers outstanding resolution, while improved coatings combat ghosting and flare If this 1,200×900 pixel crop is about 12" (30cm) wide on your screen, the complete image would print at a mammoth 55×82½″ (1.4×2.1 meters — bigger than life-sized) at this same extremely high magnification! Focus breathing (the image changing size as focused) is mostly of interest to cinematographers who don't want the image changing size ("breathing") as the lens is focused among different subjects.

The zoom ring can be moved with one fingertip, but it takes some effort. It works better with two fingers or your whole hand. The zoom feels as if it's working through a geartrain! A sample images taken with the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 DG DN OS | Sports (Image credit: Aya Iwasaki | Sigma) This is the lens to get for daylight use where you want the lightest, least expensive tele zoom yet still want a fast and excellent lens. It is ideal for daytime sports because of its very fast focusing and great image quality. You don't need IS and don't need f/2.8 for action in daytime. Personally I'm addicted to IS for hand-held shots of still subjects in any light, so I bought the 70-200mm f/4 L IS version for myself.

I don't use converters with zooms; I use the 80-400mm if I need to get to 400mm instead of fiddling with converters.
