The Discrimination button is used in conjunction with the Accept/Reject button to ensure that trash is rejected. The Garrett ACE 400i comes furnished with six different buttons. These are the Power/Iron Audio, Pinpoint, Frequency Adjustment, Discrimination, Sensitivity, and Mode. These are accompanied by a LED display on top. The LED display shows the Mode Indicator, Target ID Legend, Digital Target ID, Target ID Cursor, Lower Scale, Depth Indicator, Sensitivity Setting, and battery level indicator. The pinpoint mode is always a very welcome feature of any metal detector if you don’t know what the pinpoint mode does it allows you to accurately locate the target. It can take some time to get used to and you will need to find the “sweet spot” of the coil. The Coins mode is designed to detect coins and allows you to select several types of metal depending on what coins, in particular, you're looking for. Just like the Jewellery mode, this one doesn't react to the trash and other stuff that you may run into while coin hunting, providing highly accurate results.

Another useful pre-set is relic mode.
