About this deal

Each character has a special move to aid them with their tennis match, relating to the character. For example, Beat from Jet Set Radio has a power that allows the ball to grind against the net and shoot off at a random point, making it difficult to return. Sonic Advance (2001) · Sonic Advance 2 (2002) · Sonic Pinball Party (2003) · Sonic Battle (2003) · Sonic Advance 3 (2004) · Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis (2006) Sterling, Jim (April 10, 2008). The gameplay in Sega Superstars Tennis is similar to Sega's Virtua Tennis series, with characters able to perform techniques such as lob shots and drop shots. Characters each have different statistics and proficiency in specific areas, such as power or control. Each character also has their own unique "Superstar State", a special ability that can be activated once an accompanying meter is filled. The effects of a Superstar State vary depending on the character; for example, Sonic transforms to Super Sonic and causes the ball to zig-zag when hit, while Gilius summons thunderbolts that can temporarily stun opponents. The game features 10 courts themed after various Sega games, such as Green Hill Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog and Shibuya Downtown from Jet Set Radio. [3] Beat: Speed type - His Superstar state, Graffiti Floor, spray paints grafitti on the opponents side of the court causing them to slip when trying to move. Additionally Beat's shots shoot at erratic angles, and a GG member appears to grind across the net with a boombox. Quotes from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) were used in this game such as "My, that's a pretty snazzy performance there!" (Sonic's quote), "Who are you, and how do you know my name?" (Shadow's quote) and "See, I told you I could do it!" (Tails' quote).

Sega's many franchises come together for a tennis tournament spanning the varied worlds created by them in the last twenty years. Sixteen characters over fifteen different Sega game series are represented, as are ten different courts based on those same franchises.

a b c Cavalli, Earnest (March 26, 2008). "Review: Sega Superstars Tennis Is Not Quite Super (PS3, Wii, X360)". Wired . Retrieved September 16, 2016. Sonic the Hedgehog: In this one, the player can free roam on the court and dodge electric spikes thrown by robots and collect as many rings as possible. Several monitor power-ups like Invincibility and Speed Shoes are available. This "charge early" control negatively affects the game's more over-the-top arcade element: special shots. As you successfully volley the ball, you're building up your special shot represented by a star below your character's feet. When it's fully illuminated, tapping the shoulder button will activate it and enable your character's over-the-top tennis playing abilities. On the console game, the characters will perform moves that'll throw trash on the court, or teleport the opposition to remote positions. On the Nintendo DS, they're nothing but crazy shots that zig zag and corkscrew, zipping in different locations. Here's the problem: while the ball is whizzing all over the court, since the ball has a pre-determined landing position, players can simply stand in the middle of the court and start charging their swing. 90 percent of the time the player can blindly hit these shots this way, making the reason for these shots pretty much pointless. Quotes from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) were used in this game such as " My, that's a pretty snazzy performance there!" (Sonic), " Who are you, and how do you know my name?" (Shadow) and " See, I told you I could do it!" (Tails). There are two courts featured in this game from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, both originating from the first game.Exhibition Mode offers the chance to challenge a character to a match on one of many courts, including Sonic's home court of Green Hill Zone, or Amigo's Carnival Park court. Whichever court is chosen, there are a host of Sega celebrities cheering them on from court side. a b c Geddes, Ryan (March 19, 2008). "SEGA Superstars Tennis Review (PS2, PS3, X360)". IGN. Archived from the original on September 21, 2016 . Retrieved September 16, 2016. Amigo: Power type - His Superstar state, Maraca Madness, makes his shots curve at wild angles and lay down three maracas on the opponents court. If the opponent touches these they start dancing uncontrollably. Jet Set Radio: The player gets a spray color from a grinding man how throws them at you, when you get those time by time, you are to hit the ball across the net in to an opacity graffiti to match its colors. Space Harrier: In this minigame, the player must throw the ball against a number of series of robot, alien, machines and meteorites the constantly come time by time when difficulty increases.

The third control method takes the physical activity out of play. You hold the Wii Remote in the horizontal, NES position and use the +Control Pad to move and the 1 and 2 Buttons to swing. To hit special shots, you’ll press the 1 and 2 Buttons in combination with each other. And the less said about the stylus controls, the better – the developers included this clearly as an option and not the way to play SEGA Superstars Tennis. Skip it and play the traditional D-pad and buttons way. It works and works well.a b Casamassina, Matt (March 18, 2008). "SEGA Superstars Tennis Review (Wii)". IGN. There is also a tournament option, in which you can choose from a maximum of sixteen teams. There is also a mode called regular season, which is quite similar to the franchise mode, except that it does not have an off-season portion. Shadow the Hedgehog: Speed type - His Superstar state, Super Shadow, makes him transform into Super Shadow. His shots are now infused with Chaos Control, teleporting the opponent across the court when they return the ball.
