About this deal

There were some caveats to this though, mainly down to the design layout of the rear buttons, which weren’t exactly comfortable to use. But overall, the RG353V was a great handheld. So, in usual fashion, Anbernic have released a third reiteration of the RG353V (the second being the RG353VS).

Furthermore, the “M” version is actually made out of an aluminum shell instead of plastic. This really does give it a nice, premium feel, and it wipes the floor with its younger sibling. The purple version I received looks stunning, and I really liked it. I’m actually going to be comparing the RG405M against the RG353M for the purposes of this review, only because they do have a lot in common, but as you will read, the RG405M is also quite a step up from the RG353M. I’d like to welcome the new re-designed RG353M (“M” standing for metal). If you are a pure retro gamer and into your retro handhelds, you will know that Anbernic will often release the “M” version as a premium handheld. And the RG353M is now certainly a premium looking and feeling handheld. Insert the TF1/Int microSD card that came with your device into your laptop/PC. You may need an SD card reader for this.

RG353M Specifications

Depending on your firmware choice, everything mostly “just works” out of the box. Many CFWs come pre-configured with the best settings for each emulator My RG353M arrived a couple days ago and I have to say, relative to everything else in their lineup, they really hit the nail on the head with the 353M. Everyone's touched on gameplay and it's capable for sure, but user experience with the physical device ultimately is what's important to me. DO NOT MANUALLY EXPAND THE EASYROM PARTITION AS THIS WILL BE DONE AT FIRST BOOT OF THIS IMAGE. Manually expanding the partition prior to the first boot of this distro will cause the distro to hang and not complete the boot up process. If the partition expansion fails for some reason, you can use tools such as Gparted for linux or Minitool Partition Wizard for Windows to expand the partition.

Stable sleep mode for most of the supported RK3326 devices (Gameforce Chi, Odroid Go Advance, RK2020, RGB10, and RG351MP), the RG353M, RG353V, RG353VS, and RG503. Edit April 2023: The issue with the v2 screens has been fixed in newer builds of the ArkOS installation Option to use Retroarch as the main frontend by holding the B button during boot and selecting Retroarch while in the Boot and Recovery Tool menu (BaRT).Assuming you’ve configured your TF2 SD card properly for games and all of the files are in the right folders, your Linux OS of choice should automatically read them from the card and present you with a series of menu options including one for each game system as well as one for Favorites and one for Tools or Options. Unlike the Linux OS, the Android emulator apps are not configured by default so you’ll have to open each app and configure it manually. Mostly this will consist of pointing the emulator to the correct ROM file folder for the system and occasionally also configuring your controller mapping. Most of the the ports available through PortMaster have been configured to launch with proper controls for the Gameforce Chi, Powkiddy RGB10, Anbernic RG351P/M/V/MP, RK2020 and the Odroid Go Advance units. Controls for the Anbernic RG552, Odroid Go Super and the Powkiddy RGB10 Max are also included and have been tested but not as much as the 3.5" RK3326 devices. Install info You can see my guide on installing a custom firmware here: Installing Custom Firmware (CFW) on the RG353

DO NOT USE BALENA ETCHER WITH THIS IMAGE. There has been reports of various strange issues and inconsistent performance using Etcher for this image. So we can see that the RG505 performs roughly between up to three times as much as the RG353 series and up to twice as much as the RG552, let’s see how that transforms for emulator performance. Emulator Performance

Looking at the specs for the RG405M, it features a Unisoc T618 running at 2ghz, MaliG52 GPU, 4GB’s RAM, and a 4” IPS display with a resolution of 640 x 480. It also comes with a 4500mah Battery, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0. These specs should allow you to run emulation up to and including PS2. Turn it on and it will go through a process. Once you see the Main Menu you have successfully installed Linux on your RG353!
