About this deal

If you have a non-Buy Now Pay Later balance on your Littlewoods account, you will still need to make at least Having fallen on hard times of late, Toshiba’s TV brand is hoping for a resurgence with its latest set of TVs. The UL5A is one of the more affordable sets in its lineup and, undeterred by its budget leanings, offers Dolby Vision HDR and Alexa integration. Basically, there’s seldom anything in the 50UK3163DB’s sound profile that actively distracts you from what you’re watching, while there’s actually quite a bit that actively tries to involve you. Verdict As the outstanding balance, plus the interest now form part of your payable balance they will attract interest

The UL5A sports a surprising number of HDMI inputs (four). Other connections include an optical out, LAN, satellite and aerial antenna, two USBs and, interestingly, VGA and component connections. While it makes sense to include the latter for those who wish to connect a PC or other legacy equipment, it does feel antiquated. While Toshiba has spent money on this TV’s features, it feels like the core investments have gone missing. We’d guess that this is a cheap panel with a cheap processor and the result is a picture that struggles to keep up with the source material at full resolution. What is more encouraging, is that this TV has a good stab at creating a soundstage. It’s not all centred around the panel itself. We close our eyes and there’s a definite sense of the direction of travel as Captain Marvel flies about smashing through Kree spacecraft. Dolby Vision - makes whites brighter, intensifies colour and enhances the overall picture for an epic cinematic effect. The Toshiba 55UL7A63D does distinguish itself from budget rivals with a relatively direct, front and forward tone, however. In addition, its helpful Dolby Audio modes reduce the muffling effect and make voices – especially male voices – sound more convincing than they often do on budget TVs. One last point to stress is that if you end up with a Toshiba 55UL7A63DB, try to feed it as much Dolby Vision content as you can. Toshiba 55UL7A63DB performance — Not the brightest of TVs for true HDR performance Dolby Atmos audio offers a premium entertainment experience that helps you feel a deeper connection to the movies, shows, music, sports, and games you love. Hear what you’ve been missing with an immersive experience like no other. As with all budget TVs, the Toshiba 55UL7A63D is happier as an SDR display than an HDR one. It delivers a quite natural SDR image, with good contrast and reasonably authentic, nuanced colours (since SDR colours sit within the screen’s lighting and colour gamut comfort zone more comfortably). So much more effective is the 55UL7A63D with SDR video. In fact, I’d seriously consider running 4K HDR games consoles in SDR mode, and getting a Panasonic 4K Blu-ray player that lets you convert HDR discs to SDR, so that you can enjoy the TV’s 4K resolution without having to stress it out with HDR.

Up-close you start to notice that Toshiba has chosen to go pretty heavy on the plastic. However, this isn’t especially visible from a typical viewing distance, and while the screen is pretty lightweight, the desktop plinth it attaches to is a startlingly heavy slab of metal.

There are two matching brushed chrome-look remote controls – one is fuller, with a number pad and compatible player controls, and the other is two-thirds of the size. Both are fitted with shortcuts to Netflix and the Freeview Play smart platform and, like the TV itself, they look and feel rather good. Used to determine a user's inclusion in an experiment and the expiry of experiments a user has been included in. The default Natural picture preset probably offers the most all-round balance – especially if you set Dynamic Contrast to Low. Higher Dynamic Contrast settings again cause elevated levels of noise. What’s more, you can’t even really use the 55UL7A63DB’s maximum brightness because this can cause substantial “clipping” (detail loss) in the brightest parts of HDR pictures. At the same time, though, if you reduce brightness to combat the clipping then you can lose subtle detail in dark areas, leaving them looking flat and empty.

Finally in the negative column, motion handling is only solid rather than great, even with the Tru Motion feature active. Littlewoods Protect - Repair insurance excludes some situations including not following the manufacturer's instructions and wilful neglect. Further Relevant Information. Additional information can be found in the Insurance Product Information Document (IPID) and Further Relevant Information. The 55UL5A63DB’s Game mode puts in a fine performance, with latency measured at 26ms. Toshiba 55UL5A63DB setup– Picture settings require a lot of tweaking out of the box The costs for delivery, installation services and any warranty and insurance products cannot be placed on BuyWhile the Toshiba 55UL7A63DB’s menus are nicely presented and laid out, they can run frustratingly sluggishly at times. Toshiba’s Tru Motion processor isn’t bad at all for such an affordable TV. It reduces judder without resulting in too processed or unnatural-looking pictures. Purists will be pleased to hear that the 55UL7A63DB’s native motion handling without Tru Motion active is also pretty good. For instance, as well as handling the industry standard HDR10 system, the 55UL7A63DB can also play the broadcast-friendly HLG system (as used by the BBC iPlayer app for both live and catch-up HDR streams) and Dolby Vision. This provides extra scene-by-scene picture information to help TVs deliver better HDR pictures.

Make sure you turn off NR for all 4K and good-quality HD sources, since it can make them look unnecessarily soft. The only problems with the smart system, really, are that it can be a bit sluggish to load when you hit the Home button, and that it doesn’t currently carry either the Disney+ or Apple TV apps. Item number V9YUJ Discover a world of fabulous entertainment with theToshiba 55UK3C63DB 55-inch 4KSmart TV. TRU PICTURE TECHNOLOGYThe Toshiba 55UL7A63DB does a decent job of selling its native 4K resolution. With relatively static 4K shots you can clearly see more texture and detail than you’d get with a mere HD TV. What’s more, the set doesn’t lose as much of that detail during motion as you might have expected. The 50UK3163DB’s taste for spectacle is let down somewhat by its colour handling. The screen just doesn’t seem able to support a wide enough colour gamut to ‘keep up’ with its intense brightness, leading to some bright tones looking a bit thin and washed out versus some rivals. Similarly, the picture can clip subtle shading out of bright HDR and even SDR highlights quite noticeably thanks, presumably, to its preference for presenting HDR as brightly as possible rather than tempering it to the screen’s specific brightness capabilities with serious HDR tone mapping.
