About this deal

Leaving Sheryl Anne at the car, Lori explores the cemetery, where she finds a dying wolf-like creature.

The site's consensus states: " Nightbreed's imaginative world-building and startling creature designs are no match for its clumsy, uneven plotting". It has a commentary by Russell Cherrington and Jimmi Johonson, and another by Jose Leitao and Ryan Danhauser. It has the Director’s Cut and the Theatrical Cut, same versions as the Shout Factory release, but there are also some new bonuses to this as well. While he never quite achieved the crossover pop culture superstardom that Stephen King has managed to acquire, there's no doubt that Barker is one of the best and most influential horror authors in recent memory.Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregator, reports 51% of 35 surveyed critics gave the film a positive review; the average rating was 5. The director's cut makes the plot much easier to follow, and the character motivations easier to understand as a whole, while the theatrical cut seems to jump from scene to scene with little connective tissue. The great joy in the score for me, other than working for Clive Barker, was being able to use the children's voices and a whole slew of ethnic drums and instruments together with an orchestra, in an attempt to bring a unique musical tone to the film". A handful of the previously deleted scenes include jagged transitions, scratches, and dirty splices, but the overall appearance is barely marred by inconsistencies in grain levels (the more well-lit establishing shots feature some pulsing sheets). The quality that freaked out the studio, Barker's ambition, is precisely what makes Nightbreed so impressive".

There's still loads of issues of course (the editing is still all over the place and I think they tried to do too much with not enough budget) but I'll always love the ambition and scope - such a unique and creative mix of dark fantasy, superhero comic book (really reminds me of X-Men) and horror with so much interesting subtext. Shout later published a Special Edition Blu-ray / DVD combo pack and a 3-disc limited edition Blu-ray, containing a booklet and the theatrical cut. The results are very good – much better than we could’ve expected from a composite cut and just as good as we should expect from a movie of its age. There are lots of small additions and subtractions that don't really alter the film much, but here are the more noteworthy changes.

This version was later clarified to be a brand new director's cut that uses the footage and not the full Cabal Cut. The film follows an unstable mental patient named Aaron Boone who is falsely led to believe by his doctor that he is a serial killer. In the alternative ending used in The Cabal Cut and Director's Cut of the film, Narcisse is killed earlier in the battle by Decker, so he is not present during the subsequent events. This was the first coherent version of the movie, and was edited right up to the date of the screening to remove some superfluous scenes, including a few minor characters that died twice.Tribes of the Moon: The Making of Nightbreed featuring interviews with Craig Sheffer, Anne Bobby, Doug Bradley and more .

For years, Barker dreamed about finding it and creating a director's cut, and finally, Shout Factory provided him that opportunity. Following the somewhat surprising international success of Hellraiser in 1987, Clive Barker was the toast of the town and the horror world was his cinematic oyster. The lore and world building is that of an epic, I've been reading some of the comics and novel again recently and they really expand the universe well. This version, overseen by Clive Barker, runs twenty minutes longer than the theatrical version and contains forty minutes of new and altered footage. When it comes to extras, Arrow yet again impresses by making brand new feauturettes for this release.
