Bakewell Gin is an aromatic craft gin distilled in a small copper pot still at a humble family-run distillery in the peak district. Along the way you can meet all the other great food and drink providers, small businesses, and creative folk who live here too. One day we’ll pass on the tasting glass, but it’s nice to know we’ll be leaving something special behind to fill it. We regularly offer placements and internships for young people to help them explore potential career paths, and we've developed our current distilling team through formal apprenticeships and training. Turns out the fruit can act as a sedative so the couple found themselves on an extended nap when they got back to their hotel… for 14 hours!

Taking years to perfect, it’s a gin-credible expression of that most delicious of desserts, the Bakewell tart, with its perfectly-balanced mix of almond and raspberry flavours.
The old entrance sign to the woods has influenced the bespoke bottle lettering, and the Victorian flourishes on the label give it a sense of place, linking it to the Wire Works of the 19th century in which our gin is now made. A long time ago I announced that I would make a review of it so I guess now it’s time for a review of Isle of Harris Gin. Premium Gins and Liqueurs, handmade by a small team of artisan distillers in Britain, for the whole world to savour and enjoy.Because the sugar kelp is such an unusual botanical, the gin was developed at the International Center for Brewing and Distilling at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh where they could experiment and adjust until they had the right amount and combination with the other botanicals. Add all of the ingredients, including the egg white, into a cocktail shaker and dry-shake for 20 seconds.

McLean’s Spiced Gin is now a seasonal release, available as a festive winter warmer between November to January.One of these botanicals includes hand-picked loquat leaf, the fruit of this tree Colin and Jess tried on the day of their engagement when they were on holiday in La Gomera. The piquant citrus combination is then combined with 6 other botanicals including spicy tellicherry peppercorns and rosemary. Isle of Harris Distillers Ltd is committed giving back to our island and its community through the work we do. The palate features juniper delivering a resinous, fresh pine along with soft fruits, florals, some herbaceous notes that all intertwine to create a gin that’s rich in flavour, balanced and delicious. We try to work closely with other local organisations, enterprises, and businesses to support each other's work through creative ideas and collaborations when we can. The population of the Isle of Harris has declined by almost 50% over the last 50 years as young people leave to seek work far from our shores. Spiced is an incredibly versatile gin that is as warming as it is refreshing so can be enjoyed equally by the fireplace at winter as well as in the heat of summer!On the nose, there are intense aromas of cherry and juniper, with rich notes of cherry and almond on the palate, which compliment perfectly to give a classic Bakewell flavour. This first release features 11 botanicals including brambles, gorse flowers, hawthorn berries, Scots pine needles and golden chanterelle mushrooms. So I was looking through my 2017 Best Nine and 4 (actually 5 if you count my gin tasting post as well) featured the beautiful Isle of Harris Gin. Personally I would have liked some more of the maritime scent and flavors that makes this gin unique and therefor I can’t give it top score even though this gin is one of my favorite gins.
